Job Opportunity: Hazardous Materials Professional

We are seeking a skilled Hazardous Materials Professional to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our Occupational Hygiene and Safety Group, you will play a critical role in providing hazardous materials assessment and abatement/remediation services to our clients.

About the Role

As a Hazardous Materials Professional, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting visual assessments of buildings for hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, PCBs, and other substances
  • Collecting and analyzing samples of suspect hazardous materials
  • Developing hazardous materials management plans and safe work procedures
  • Conducting hazardous materials condition assessments and abatement/remediation inspections
  • Assisting with indoor air quality and occupational hygiene projects

This role requires local and regional travel, as well as the ability to work in remote areas and under physically demanding conditions. You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on technical excellence and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • 2-8 years of experience in health and safety/hazardous materials
  • Hazardous materials training and certification (e.g. WorkSafeBC Level S Surveyor Safety Training Certificate)
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
