About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Hazardous Materials Professional to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our Occupational Hygiene and Safety Group, you will play a critical role in providing hazardous materials assessment and abatement/remediation services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct visual assessments of buildings to identify hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, PCBs, mercury components, ozone-depleting substances, and suspect visible microbial growth.
  • Collect bulk samples of suspect hazardous materials for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare hazardous materials building materials assessment reports.
  • Develop hazardous materials management plans, safe work procedures, abatement specifications, and exposure control plans.
  • Conduct hazardous materials condition assessments.
  • Conduct hazardous material abatement/remediation inspections and air monitoring, and prepare daily reports/project completion reports.
  • Assist with completion of indoor air quality and other occupational hygiene projects under the supervision and direction of a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
  • Assist clients with asset assessments, data management, and compliance issues related to regulated materials.
Requirements
  • Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental diploma/certificate/degree an asset.
  • 2 to 8 years' experience in health and safety/hazardous materials required.
  • Hazardous materials training (e.g., WorkSafeBC Level S Surveyor Safety Training Certificate, AHERA Building Inspector Course, Alberta Asbestos Worker Course, Hazardous Materials Technician Course, Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor Course, Mould Assessment and Remediation Course, etc.) an asset.
  • Experience in the consulting industry an asset.
  • Unrestricted Class 5 Driver's License valid in British Columbia, personal vehicle, and a good driving record (drivers abstract required).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to technical excellence.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt and work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Flexibility with respect to remote work and travel. Willing and able to work up to two weeks at a time out of town.
