About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Designer to join our team at JMP Solutions - Canada. As a key member of our Systems division, you will be responsible for designing and developing custom automation solutions using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Total ETO, and PDM Professional.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for custom automation solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify mechanical functional requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations to validate functionality and component sizing
  • Develop concepts and 3D designs to align with contractual scope and functional requirements
  • Lead interactive design reviews to communicate design direction and receive cross-functional input
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain group to source and select major 3rd party technical vendors
  • Produce 2D assembly and manufacturing drawings, pneumatic schematics, Bills of Materials, and Spare Parts lists
  • Review and verify feasibility, accuracy, and thoroughness of designs and drawings
  • Assist with the development of other Mechanical Designers through coaching and mentorship
  • Interact with Project Leads, Mechanical Team Leads, and Project Managers to communicate project status and issues
  • Provide support during manufacturing and build stages, including troubleshooting and problem-solving
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in electrical, mechanical, or software controls technology
  • At least eight years of relevant work experience in an automation design role
  • Proven leadership qualities, including good oral and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of industrial automation and robotics
  • Direct experience in an automation design role, including strong aptitude in 3D CAD design, 2D drawings, and on-the-floor equipment troubleshooting
  • Confident performing engineering calculations to analyze equipment parameters
  • Proficient with sanitary design requirements, material selection, tolerance stack up, and component selection
  • Experience with cycle time analysis/simulations, process and flow breakdowns, and the development of critical requirements/specifications
  • Familiarity and/or proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, AutoCAD, and TETO
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Experience with compliance to equipment design standards
