About the Role

Closer to Home Community Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child and Youth Care Specialist to join our team at Matomai'tshitapisskoyis (First Indigenous Lodge). As a key member of our community group care program, you will provide awake and proactive overnight supervision for youth in a culturally safe and immersive home environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and document hourly room checks to ensure the safety and well-being of youth
  • Investigate any unusual nighttime activity and contact on-call or supervisory staff as needed to address emergencies
  • Manage crises in a culturally responsive manner, utilizing the Teaching Family Model to develop safe, stable relationships and teach skills that increase self-efficacy
  • Support children and youth in enhancing their spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional well-being and healing, and increase their sense of belonging
  • Complete day-to-day household tasks, such as cooking, cleaning, and other duties as required
Requirements
  • Diploma or degree in a related field, with previous experience working with vulnerable children and families an asset
  • Familiarity with Indigenous Ways of Knowing and experience working in community group care or other "in-care" programs preferred
  • Ability to work an unstructured work week, including evenings, overnights, mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License, reliable vehicle for work purposes, adequate and current insurance, and willingness to provide a Driver's Abstract upon hire
  • Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Intervention Record Check completed prior to commencement
  • Ability to manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner and intervene physically if necessary to reduce the risk of harm
