About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join our team at Smith + Andersen. As a key member of our project management team, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and contractors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Review and manage project documentation, including design briefs, concept reports, and construction budgets.
  • Perform or arrange for reviews of existing installations and interpret the impact on the project.
  • Prepare calculations and select equipment, and assign tasks to designers and CAD technicians as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, including provincial building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate document management with internal and external project teams, including architects, interior designers, and other disciplines.
  • Understand and recommend project procurement methodologies and apply them to the project.
  • Review deliverables for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development.
  • Promote and enforce company standards relating to project administration, documentation, and processes.
  • Act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of contract administration activities.
  • Ensure shop drawing review process takes place within project timelines.
  • Coordinate with contract administration team regarding drawing reviews, contract administration process, and site activities.
  • Prepare change notices and reviews change notices issued by contract administration team.
  • Ensure tasks are completed accurately and within assigned hours/fee.
  • Respond to technical and financial queries related to the project.
  • Keep Principal-in-charge or Associate Principal advised of all changes in scope of work and prepares amendments to the contract.
  • Support accounts receivable process.
  • Ensure internal project team discipline coordination processes are complete.
  • Prepare and monitor schedule of tasks required to complete the project.
  • Liaise with external consultants and vendors as required to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Organize and attend client meetings and deliver presentations to clients/owners.
Requirements
  • Five or more years of project engineering experience in the field of mechanical building services.
  • P.Eng. or ability to qualify within one year.
  • Senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
  • Advanced working knowledge of provincial building code, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Sound communications skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • LEED certification/experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, and standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative and practical problem-solving.
