Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly motivated 2nd Class Operating Engineer to work in the Central Powerhouse facility. This position offers reliable and full-time employment with a defined pension plan and an excellent benefits package.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a 1st Class High Pressure Heating Plant and its auxiliaries.
  • Supervise the operation of heating/cooling, water supply, and electrical generating equipment.
  • Respond to fire alarms and observe and record all readings relating to energy consumption, steam, and water pressures.
  • Complete chemical testing and adding of chemicals for the boiler, chilled water, and cooling tower systems.
  • Test run emergency stand-by generators, fire booster pumps, and follow regulations set out by the Department with regard to safe operations and inspections.
Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must have a 2nd Class Power Engineering Certification Registered with the Province of Manitoba.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence.
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of this position.
Qualifications
  • Manitoba 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate.
  • Experience working in a First Class or Second Class Plant as Shift Engineer.
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety Act, and any other relevant safety policies and legislation.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
