Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled 2nd Class Power Engineer to join our team at Maple Leaf Foods. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of our plant, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing utilities equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and operate various utilities equipment and processes, including steam plants, HVAC, compressed air, water systems, natural gas, and refrigeration.
  • Collaborate with contractors, manufacturers, and vendors to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
  • Develop and manage essential protocols, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Preventive Maintenance (PMs), Predictive Diagnostic Maintenance (PDM), and Work Orders (WOs).
  • Spearhead project development and implementation, focusing on utilities enhancements and process improvements.
  • Uphold health, safety, and food safety policies, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Cultivate a culture of engagement, responsibility, accountability, and teamwork among employees, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
Requirements:
  • 2nd Class Power Engineering certification.
  • Proficiency in managing steam, ammonia, and refrigeration systems.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivation and ability to thrive with minimal supervision, working independently and as part of a team.
  • Team player mentality, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in computer operations, including Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Prior experience in a food production or manufacturing setting is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Steam and refrigeration experience.
  • Additional tickets, such as Millwright and Plumbing, are an asset.
  • Experience in a food processing environment.
  • Good computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office applications and experience with CMMS.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement programs, such as 6Sigma.
  • Requires initiative, results-oriented, demonstrated leadership, and excellent communication skills.
  • Work as part of a team and be an exceptional fit with our Leadership Edge Values.
  • Project management experience.
  • Desire to achieve personal, departmental, and plant goals.
