The Manitoba government is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Power Engineer to join our team at Central Powerhouse in Winnipeg, MB.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position that offers reliable employment with a defined pension plan and an excellent benefits package, including extended health, health spending, dental, vision, long-term disability, supportive employment, sick leave, paid vacation, and maternity/parental leave.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the operation and maintenance of a First Class powerhouse and related mechanical systems.
- Work with the powerhouse team to ensure adequate heating/cooling is provided to staff at connected complexes.
- Perform preventative maintenance and general equipment repairs.
- Collaborate with other staff and the public to achieve program delivery goals.
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices, procedures, and relevant safety policies and legislation.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must have a valid Manitoba 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate.
- Must have satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Security Check (if applicable), and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Must be physically capable of performing the required duties, including medium/heavy lifting, climbing, and working at heights.
- Experience working in a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Class Steam Plant.
- Experience operating mechanical systems and performing preventative maintenance and general equipment repairs.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build strong working relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
