Job Summary

The Power Engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous operation of equipment and facilities by completing maintenance requirements of machinery, mechanical equipment, and utility systems located at the Winnipeg sites.

The successful candidate will take the lead on troubleshooting malfunctions, drawing on SMEs as required, to ensure minimal downtime for the facility.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting equipment and utilities malfunctions by locating the source of problems and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Controlling and minimizing downtime by partnering with production and lab departments to schedule preventative maintenance.
  • Training equipment operators on routine preventative maintenance techniques to further reduce downtime.
  • Providing recommendations and assisting with new installations, including the assembly of machinery and equipment prior to installation.
  • Performing machine setup and adjustments as required, following all relevant SOPs, diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Responding to requests for repairs and contributing to the preparation and submission of technical reports or proposals for installation or repairs to equipment and related systems.
  • Participating in continuous improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing methods such as 5S, White belt, or Kaizen.
  • Overseeing the work of contractors and supporting other trades as required.
  • Performing various SAP functions for Deviations, CAPAs, and Change Control and SOP revisions.
  • Working with the CAD technician to update mechanical diagrams and CAD drawings as required.
  • Assisting in grounds keeping, including snow removal and interior/exterior lighting as needed.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment by following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensuring all work is properly documented according to policies, procedures, and GDP requirements.
  • Monitoring and documenting all building/equipment control readings.
  • Complying with all Health & Safety policies and procedures, including the wearing of PPE, Lockout, Guarding, WHMIS, etc.

The successful candidate will possess a valid 3rd/4th Class Power Engineer certificate and a minimum of three years of related experience. Hands-on experience with industrial and electrical equipment in a pharmaceutical or food industry is preferred. Additional trades certification is an asset.

The ideal candidate will be able to read and interpret documents such as blueprint drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. They will also be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of employees and management.
