Experienced Environmental Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Field Technician or Technologist to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our Contaminated Sites team, you will be responsible for conducting fieldwork and providing technical expertise to support our clients in the government, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to yourself, clients, employees, and the public.
- Identify and report potential and existing site hazards, near loss incidents, and loss incidents.
- Maintain excellent field notes and collect and handle soil and groundwater samples.
- Carry out fieldwork, including groundwater monitoring, K-test data collection and analysis, soils sampling through test pit excavations or borehole drilling, subcontractor supervision, drilling investigations, and soil vapour investigations.
- Supervise subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, borehole drilling, groundwater monitoring well installation, and test pit excavation.
- Oversee remedial contractors, including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking, and progress reporting.
- Prepare and coordinate project documentation, subcontractors, and equipment for field programs.
- Filing and managing all project-related field notes, including some data entry and assistance with report preparation.
- Perform and record work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in environmental, hydrogeology, or other related sciences.
- 2-5 years of applicable experience with training junior staff in environmental practices, including Phase I and II ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, and oversight of remediation.
- A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to work with little supervision.
- Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety-conscious attitude.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes.
- A valid driver's license.
