Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Advocate to join our team as a Peer Support Worker. As a key member of the Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) team, you will work closely with clients who have experienced mental illness and substance use.

About the Role

This is a relief full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. The ideal candidate will have personal experience with mental illness, be passionate about sharing their experiences, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

You will provide peer support to clients, assisting them in identifying and meeting their goals. This will involve collaborating with the MHSU team and community partners to ensure that clients receive the necessary services and support to achieve their desired outcomes.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a variety of environments, including clinics, hospitals, and community settings. They will also have the ability to establish strong relationships with clients, families, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support to clients, focusing on their strengths and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the MHSU team and community partners to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Support clients in achieving their goals, including wellness planning, case management, and advocacy.
  • Work in various environments, including clinics, hospitals, and community settings.
Requirements
  • Two years of lived experience in recovery from substance use, co-occurring substance use and mental illness, or mental illness.
  • Diploma in a Social Services program and completion of a recognized Peer Support Training program.
  • Two years of recent experience in a peer support role or an equivalent combination of education, training, and employment experience.
  • Valid BC driver's license.
