Pulmonary Medicine Specialist

The Internal Medicine Department at Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a dedicated full-time Pulmonary Medicine Specialist to enhance the team. This role is situated within a vibrant healthcare environment, focusing on comprehensive patient care.
The department encompasses various subspecialties, including General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Endocrinology, Respirology, and Intensive Care.
The facility is equipped with advanced technologies such as echocardiography, exercise stress testing, and a Sleep Lab, among others. A collaborative approach is emphasized, with a Cardiac Rehab Clinic managed by a Nurse Practitioner alongside Internal Medicine Physicians. Additionally, the hospital employs two full-time Respiratory Therapists.
Compensation is structured on a fee-for-service basis, offering flexible vacation options. Specialists benefit from call stipends and other incentives as outlined in the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia.
The institution is affiliated with a prominent medical school, providing opportunities for physicians to apply for faculty positions to mentor residents and learners. There are also prospects to engage with the upcoming Medical Campus on Cape Breton Island.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will provide inpatient and outpatient consultative services across the Eastern Zone. The facility operates as a 90-bed acute-care hospital, and the selected individual will collaborate with a collegial group of internal medicine professionals who practice both General Internal Medicine and their respective subspecialties. Participation in the Internal Medicine call schedule, inpatient and emergency department subspecialty consultations, and coverage of the medical/surgical/cardiac Intensive Care Unit is expected.
Work ScheduleThis position requires full-time commitment, including outpatient clinic hours and a call schedule of 1:6.
Required QualificationsCandidates must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or eligible to undertake the Fellowship Exam in Internal Medicine. Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is also required.
Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is necessary.
