You will be part of a dedicated team focused on enhancing our primary product and platform, making relationship intelligence essential through sophisticated data analytics. With our expanding user base and entry into new markets, we are more committed than ever to providing relationship intelligence to professionals globally.

Your role and influence:

As the Chief Engineering Officer at Advance Venture Partners, you will report directly to the CTO and oversee the development of our cutting-edge CRM product and platform. Your strategic insight will ensure we establish robust foundations that drive exceptional customer outcomes and foster cross-functional collaboration. Implementing the Product Operating Model will be a key focus for our R&D team, and your leadership will be crucial in facilitating and advocating for this transformation. You will also steer our technical and architectural roadmap, ensuring optimal performance and user experience across our suite of applications.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define Product Vision: Collaborate with product and design leaders to create a compelling future vision for our product, developing a strategic roadmap that seamlessly integrates product, design, and engineering.
  • Oversee Engineering Implementation: Direct engineering execution, ensuring high-quality software and an enjoyable user experience through continuous, iterative development practices, while spearheading initiatives to enhance our overall development approach and delivery processes.
  • Expand and Strengthen the Team: Shape the team's structure, identify hiring needs, and recruit and onboard engineers whose diverse technical skills and interpersonal abilities contribute to cohesive, well-rounded teams.
  • Foster Team Development: Lead and nurture a high-performing team through effective leadership, coaching, and mentoring, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement while ensuring inclusive development opportunities for all team members.
  • Formulate Technical Strategy: Create a technical strategy and roadmap aligned with Advance Venture Partners' business and product objectives, focusing on delivering high quality, excellent usability, and fast performance across applications and APIs.
  • Address Technical Debt: Lead organization-wide prioritization of enhancements to code quality, systems, and engineering processes to support these improvements.
  • Guide Strategic Decisions: Navigate complex discussions and drive decisions that align with business context, product, architecture, design philosophies, and strategies.
  • Establish and Monitor Department KPIs: Develop and track key performance indicators to ensure departmental goals are achieved.

Qualifications:

We understand that not every candidate will meet every requirement. Research indicates that women and individuals from diverse backgrounds are less likely to apply for positions unless they meet all qualifications. At Advance Venture Partners, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you are enthusiastic about this role but your experience does not perfectly align with the qualifications outlined, we encourage you to apply. You may be the ideal candidate for this or other opportunities.

Required:

  • 13+ years of experience in developing scalable web applications with significant data volumes and rich visualizations.
  • 8+ years in an engineering leadership capacity, managing teams of 10 or more, with experience overseeing multiple teams through managers and team leads.
  • Proven experience in developing, coaching, and managing engineering leaders, such as Engineering Directors, Engineering Managers, and Staff Engineers.
  • A genuine concern for the well-being of colleagues, with a commitment to supporting their growth and development while also providing necessary challenges.
  • Experience in recruiting and securing engineering talent.
  • A passion for designing, evolving, and optimizing the development process, ideally utilizing methodologies such as Kanban to help developers maintain a seamless workflow.
  • A thoughtful balance between immediate business priorities and long-term investment and strategy.
  • A commitment to delivering an exceptionally high-quality product, ensuring outstanding functionality while maintaining the platform's overall performance and reliability.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborative work within engineering and across functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both articulate and persuasive, with the ability to listen and prioritize diverse perspectives.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading in organizations that implement the Product Operating Model.
  • Familiarity with Ruby, React, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with CRM-type applications that address challenges such as entity resolution and designing data models to accommodate numerous attributes across many entities.
  • Experience in building data-intensive applications.

Technical Environment:

Our platform utilizes React and TypeScript on the front end, with Ruby and PostgreSQL on the back end. Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS and operates on Kubernetes.
