Job Title: Chief Inspector

The Nunavut Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our Liquor and Cannabis Branch, you will play a critical role in enforcing the Liquor Act and Cannabis Act, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Government's approach to inspecting facilities and events licensed under the Liquor Act and Cannabis Act, including hiring, training, and monitoring contracted inspectors.
  • Work closely with inspectors, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to identify and address compliance issues.
  • Communicate territorial liquor and cannabis laws, regulations, and processes to Nunavummiut, the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Board, licensees, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert analysis, advice, and recommendations to the Government and Board on issues related to liquor and cannabis laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Support other elements of Nunavut's liquor and cannabis regulatory systems, including issuing special occasion permits, liaising with alcohol education committees, and organizing targeted initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary diploma in Enforcement or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in interpreting and enforcing regulatory law.
  • Experience supervising staff and/or contract employees.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Liquor Act, Cannabis Act, and related regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment.
