Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Municipal Enforcement Officer to join our team at the City of Iqaluit. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing municipal enforcement duties, including operating marked enforcement vehicles, conducting investigations, and assisting with domestic animal control.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce municipal by-laws and territorial statutes;
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence;
  • Operate a wide range of enforcement equipment, including firearms and animal control equipment;
  • Provide professional and courteous service to the public;
  • Maintain accurate records and reports;
  • Appear in court to provide evidence.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent;
  • Valid Nunavut Class 5 Driver's License;
  • Possession and Acquisition License (PAL);
  • Prior experience in municipal or law enforcement, security, policing, or a related field;
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with by-laws, federal laws, and acts;
  • Ability to conduct investigations, inspections, interviews, and deal with the public;
  • Confidence in dealing with domestic animals;
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including concise report writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field;
  • Previous work experience as a municipal enforcement officer, constable, or peace officer;
  • Self-defense, radar, and conflict resolution training;
  • OC spray training and baton certification;
  • Fluency in Inuktitut is a definite asset.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to formal education may be considered.

The successful candidate must provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a TB test.
