About the PositionThis role plays a critical part in enhancing the Faculty of Engineering's research support services. Working closely with senior leadership, this position will promote Engineering research consistent with the Faculty's strategic plan. Responsibilities include reviewing proposals, ensuring compliance with University policy and Federal regulations, managing applications requiring ethics approval, and advising on non-financial compliance issues.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement standardized internal policies and business processes to maximize the operational effectiveness of the Faculty's research service provisions.
- Manage grant cycles, evaluate research performance, and provide strategic planning support in partnership with office and university senior leadership teams.
- Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures, including directorships, external reviews, reporting, funding, and the establishment of research chairs and core facilities.
- Manage Research Chair allocations, including planning, recruitment, and reporting.
- Collaborate with other University offices to promote Faculty of Engineering priorities and ensure compatibility with University policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Represent the Faculty of Engineering on committees focused on research, outreach, undergraduate research, and community engagement.
- Advise research proposal leaders on budget development, ensuring maximum research effectiveness and compliance with Faculty and University policies.
- Direct administrative support for the management of major projects in collaboration with the Director of Finance & Administration.
- Work with researchers and internal resources to ensure timely access to information and support the development and submission of award materials.
- Capture data summarizing research performance in the Faculty of Engineering and analyze these data with the Associate Dean, Research & External Relations.
- Review award materials for accuracy, compliance, and eligibility, and suggest changes when issues are identified.
- Assist in the completion of high-quality and highly competitive nomination files.
Education: University degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
Experience: 5-7 years of relevant experience in an academic research environment, with experience developing applications for Canadian and provincial funding, and administering complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of University research, federal and provincial government bodies, and their relationships to industry and the research/education sector. Excellent writing and verbal skills, with attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
