About the Role

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the urban Aboriginal population of the Greater Hamilton area. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mobile Street Outreach Worker to join our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide resources and supports to community members experiencing homelessness
  • Make referrals, provide crisis intervention, and advocate for community members
  • Link community members with other natural supports to reduce risk and long-term homelessness
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other team members to achieve program goals
Requirements
  • Two (2) year post-secondary education in Social Service Work and/or Indigenous Studies or a combination of equivalent and relevant education
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in outreach, advocacy, or support in a community organization and/or experience with Indigenous homeless population
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues, Indigenous and non-Indigenous community services and supports
  • Sufficient skills in use of Microsoft Office applications and 365
  • Ability to maintain a daily schedule of program requirements, handle high levels of stress, and adapt to changing circumstances
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment
  • First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification is an asset
  • Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) CPIC as a condition of the employment offer
