Job Summary

Island Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health Crisis Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality care to children and youth with acute mental illness, working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Comprehensive Assessments: Conduct age-appropriate psychiatric assessments, including risk to self and others, and mental status evaluations.
  • Develop Effective Treatment Plans: Work with patients and families to develop individualized treatment plans, incorporating evidence-based practices and interventions.
  • Provide Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation services to patients in crisis, utilizing effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams: Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, community agency representatives, and other healthcare professionals, to provide comprehensive care.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams, utilizing active listening, problem-solving, and respectful communication skills.
  • Manage Complex Cases: Manage complex cases, prioritizing tasks and managing workload to ensure timely and effective care.
Requirements
  • Education and Training: Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant, and completion of the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice (2nd Edition) competencies.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years recent experience working with children and youth with acute mental illness, crisis or emergency mental health experience an asset.
  • Certifications: Current CPR certification and recent training in Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent.
