About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Ecologist to lead our ecology projects based out of our Edmonton office. This is a full-time permanent position focused on overseeing ecological assessments, inventory programs, restorations, studies, environmental regulatory applications, and related projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage project deliverables and working relationships with Woodlands peers and management, regulators, and clients.
  • Provide senior direction for business strategy development and maintain regulatory compliance and best management practices.
  • Support the development of mobile technologies, spatial data set integrity, and web-enabled dashboards.
  • Provide senior ecology review of reports and data analysis, and support mentorship and inspire the professional development of Woodlands employees.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Knowledgeable in current restoration best management practices for watercourse, wetland, and watershed restoration, as well as terrestrial habitat restoration of linear features such as legacy roads and seismic.
  • Current with best management practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Ecology, Forestry, Biology, Engineering, or other program with an environmental focus.
  • Professional registration with good standing in one of Alberta's Professional Regulatory Organizations.
  • Experience as an Authenticating Wetland Professional and as a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist.
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced technical writing, data analysis, reporting, and communication skills.
  • GIS and geospatial data analysis knowledge or experience is considered an asset.
  • Previous teaching experience with data or ecological-based subjects is considered an asset.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, quality, safety, and customer service focus.
