About the Role

The Government of Manitoba is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead the Disability Policy Branch. This is a key role within the Department of Families, responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and legislation related to disability services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the branch's objectives and goals
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of professionals in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and legislation
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build relationships and partnerships
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the boards of directors and senior staff of external agencies
  • Provide analysis, negotiation, and coordination of intra and interdepartmental, intergovernmental, and intersectoral agreements and initiatives
Requirements
  • Post-Secondary Education in public administration, economics, law, social sciences, or social work with progressively responsible senior level management experience
  • Experience providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of legislation, policies, and programs
  • Experience negotiating in challenging situations, problem-solving, and identifying solutions that are amenable to all parties
  • Management experience with responsibility for human and financial resources
  • Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans
  • Proven ability as a leader with a commitment to creating, supporting, and sustaining a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results and develop for the future
  • Excellent political acumen skills demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on sensitive issues
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish productive working relationships with a wide range of senior staff across government and with external stakeholders
  • Superior verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization and to external stakeholders
  • Superior written communication skills, including the ability to write politically sensitive and confidential material for senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change
  • Experience building relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Indigenous people, and implementing the principles of reconciliation
