Animal Care Supervisor

Job Summary:
The BC SPCA is seeking an experienced Animal Care Supervisor to join our team in Dawson Creek. As a key member of our shelter operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and welfare of animals in our care, providing guidance and training to staff and volunteers, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Animal Centre Manager in maintaining optimal welfare standards in the shelter
- Ensure the health and welfare needs of all animals are actively managed
- Train staff and volunteers on ShelterSense programs and ensure animal interactions are conducted safely
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of BC SPCA programs, policies, and procedures
- Recruit and select a high-performing team of shelter staff and volunteers
- Provide ongoing training, direction, and coaching to shelter staff and volunteers
- Conduct reviews of shelter staff and volunteers
- Ensure retention of trained staff and volunteers through recognition initiatives and promotion opportunities
- Oversee the implementation of high customer service standards and monitor customer satisfaction
- Ensure the physical facility, equipment, and supplies are maintained in a condition acceptable to the Society
- Ensure animals are treated humanely and with compassion
- Assist with conducting contractual animal control duties and preliminary cruelty investigations
- Act as a champion of the BC SPCA Health & Safety program
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
- Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases
- Previous kennel or animal care experience preferred
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare
- Ability to work with other staff, volunteers, and the public in a positive, practical manner
- Ability to prioritize demands on time
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
- Basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with front desk duties
- Position is physically demanding and requires an individual with the ability to maintain a level of fitness and endurance
- Minimum of three years animal care experience with the BC SPCA or equivalent agency preferred
