About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Municipal Finance Administrator to join our team in the Internal Controls and Municipal Finance Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing accounting and treasury services to support the division's mission to ensure the integrity of financial reporting and provide capital infrastructure financing to municipal clients.

The successful candidate will possess a professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent and have two to four years' related experience. Strong technical accounting competence, analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment are essential. Experience with SAP, auditing, and municipal finance would be considered assets.

Primary Accountabilities

The Municipal Finance Administrator will be responsible for:

  • Providing accounting and treasury services, including preparation of budgets and forecasts, recording and reconciliation of accounts, and preparation of financial reports.
  • Identifying and addressing internal control weaknesses, coordinating year-end audit requirements, and responding to audit queries.
  • Forecasting loan requirements, performing calculations for loan documents, and administering the short-term loan program.
  • Developing and fostering working relationships with municipal CFOs to determine annual borrowing requirements and provide advice on financing options.
  • Overseeing the Tracking of Auditor General Recommendations program, including coordinating departmental responses and managing the associated IT system.
