Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Greenhouse Labourer to join our team at Heeman Greenhouses Limited. As a Greenhouse Labourer, you will be responsible for maintaining the health and productivity of our greenhouse crops.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cut and harvest horticultural crops to ensure optimal growth and quality.
  • Perform greenhouse cleaning and maintenance tasks to prevent the spread of disease and pests.
  • Assist in pruning trees, shrubs, and plants to promote healthy growth and development.
  • Mix and prepare soils to provide optimal growing conditions for our crops.
  • Plant bulbs and seeds to ensure a continuous supply of fresh produce.
  • Pot and re-pot plants to maintain their health and appearance.
  • Transplant seedlings or rooted cuttings to promote healthy growth and development.
  • Apply fertilizers to promote healthy growth and development of our crops.
  • Monitor crops for signs of insect or disease damage and report any issues to management.
  • Water and tend to plants, lawns, and/or gardens to ensure optimal growth and health.
  • Clean the work area to maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
Requirements
  • Experience working in a greenhouse or horticultural setting is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks.
  • Physical stamina to handle heavy loads and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that require bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions from management.
Working Conditions
  • Work will be performed in a greenhouse environment with varying temperatures and humidity levels.
  • Ability to work in a confined space and handle heavy loads.
  • Ability to work in a wet/damp environment and handle odours.
  • Ability to work in a hot/cold environment and handle refrigerated areas.
  • Non-smoking environment.
Equipment and Machinery Experience
  • Experience operating a forklift and garden tractors is an asset.
Transportation/Travel Information
  • Public transportation is not available.
