Job Summary:

This R&D position is primarily responsible for the planning and execution of pilot scale manufacturing processes to seamlessly transition the development of new products from formulation to manufacturing.

The Process Development Engineer II is charged with being able to identify and solve potential issues with scaling-up formulas through process experimentation, observation, and data analysis under minimal supervision for bulk and finished goods.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Process Development: Independently study, understand, and execute pilot scale bulk batches and filling of finished goods of R&D lab formulas for a smooth transition to manufacturing/production scale while providing fluid communication between R&D and Manufacturing.
  2. Collaboration: Work alongside formulating chemists from the early developmental stage of projects to help determine potential future quality and process concerns.
  3. Problem-Solving: Quickly acquire the knowledge necessary to create a Design of Experiments (DOE) to solve processing challenges.
  4. Manufacturing Trials: Design, prepare, and execute manufacturing trial and process validation batches of assigned projects.
  5. Issue Resolution: Active participation in the understanding and resolution of new/existing manufacturing issues.
  6. Compliance: Responsible for compliance of assigned work area with company-set standards for laboratory safety and general maintenance.
  7. Investigation: Investigate out-of-specification manufacturing batches and production nonconformances, as needed. Implement effective and efficient corrective and preventive actions.
Working Relationships:
  1. Communication: He/she needs to have exceptional communication skills and an ability to effectively convey complicated data and timelines with all cross-functional teams; R&D Formulation Chemists, Technical & Operational Manufacturing, Packaging, and Marketing/Product Development.
Qualifications & Competencies:
  1. Education: B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related degree.
  2. Experience: Minimum (3) years in a science-related industry, preferable personal care.
  3. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of Chemical processing concepts including heat transfer, mass flow, and instrumental & statistical analysis and how it is applied to personal care products.
  4. Soft Skills: Strong organizational, communication and writing skills.
  5. Personal Qualities: Driven to continuously learn and test new ideas independently and in teams.
  6. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office applications.
