We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a Histology Specialist, you will be responsible for processing and examining surgical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Specimen Processing: Accession and process surgical specimens, including grossing, embedding, and cutting of tissue blocks.
- Microscopic Examination: Examine tissue sections under a microscope to identify abnormalities and prepare reports for pathologists.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain histology equipment, including microtomes and IHC stainers.
- Quality Control: Ensure accurate and timely processing of specimens, and maintain quality control records.
- Collaboration: Work closely with pathologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Certification: Medical Laboratory Technologist certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Experience: Minimum five years of experience in histology, with a focus on surgical specimen processing.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of histology principles and techniques, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Education: Completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist program from an accredited institution.
This is a full-time position, working days, evenings, nights, including weekends and statutory holidays. The successful candidate must be available to work at all Osler sites and attend to emergencies as required.
