About the Role:

The Unit Coordinator will play a vital role in the Emergency Department, working closely with the Manager, Emergency Mental Health and Addictions Services and the Patient Care Manager, Emergency Department. This position requires a strong understanding of nursing processes and the ability to lead an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach to patient care.

The Unit Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the brief assessment, care planning, transfer, and discharge planning for MHA patients, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team within the ED and MHA Programs. They will serve as the primary point of contact for patients, essential partners in care, and team members within the ED.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient workflow and excellent patient and family experiences
  • Coordinate the completion of core assessments (e.g., RAI) and effective utilization of resources within the ED and MHA programs
  • Develop and maintain a culture of inclusivity, harm reduction, and compassion within the department
  • Act in accordance with relevant legislations/standards while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the nursing profession

Qualifications:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing)
  • B.Sc.N and ACLS, preferred
  • Current B.C.L.S. is required
  • 3 years' experience in an Acute Mental Health and/or Addictions setting required
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO
  • Completion of CPI Certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention, preferred
  • CNA Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and advanced psychiatric nursing experience related to crisis intervention is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act is required
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of evidenced-based practice in substance use health is required

  • The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051)
  • Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months
