Job Summary:

The Unit Coordinator will play a vital role in the Emergency Department's Mental Health and Addictions team, reporting to the Manager, Emergency Mental Health and Addictions Services. This position requires a strong understanding of nursing processes and the ability to lead an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to oversee brief assessments, care planning, transfer, and discharge planning for MHA patients.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for patients, essential partners in care, and team members within the ED.
  • Ensure efficient workflow, excellent patient and family experiences, and effective utilization of resources within the ED and MHA programs.
  • Coordinate completion of core assessments and provide patient/family MHA system navigation and support.

Qualifications:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Three years' experience in an Acute Mental Health and/or Addictions setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO.
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, preferred.
  • CNA Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and advanced psychiatric nursing experience related to crisis intervention, an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and evidence-based practice in substance use health.
  • Ability to conduct brief Mental Health and Addictions assessments with excellent interviewing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community MHA resources and ability to provide patient/family MHA system navigation and support.
  • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard.

  • The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).
  • Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
