Mental Health Services Nurse

Brightshores is seeking a skilled Mental Health Services Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our crisis mental health services, you will play a vital role in implementing services that meet the needs of individuals with mental health and addiction illnesses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement services that meet the needs of individuals with mental health and addiction illnesses
  • Work collaboratively with multiple services as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Travel within the counties of Grey and Bruce as required
  • Deploy to support other Mental Health Teams within the department as needed
Qualifications:
  • Current Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
  • Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized Community College
  • Recent psychiatric nursing experience within the past three years
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, Substitute Decision Makers Act, HCCA and the DSM-IV-R
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct psychosocial and psychiatric assessment including a risk assessment
  • Knowledge of community resources and navigation of broader mental health system
  • Demonstrates an ability to think critically and respond effectively to emergent situations
  • Ability to provide a brief solution-focused therapy modality as well as support, advocacy and education services to patients and as needed to their support person(s)
  • Valid CPI course
  • Experience in medication delivery
  • Excellent leadership, problem solving, decision making, organizational and patient assessment skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated
  • Plan, develop and conduct inpatient groups
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary team setting
  • Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays
  • Commitment to continuing education
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
  • Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and 'LEAD' Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
