Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse

At Brightshores, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our Mental Health Services team. As a key member of our crisis support program, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals with mental health and addiction illnesses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement services that meet the unique needs of individuals with mental health and addiction illnesses, utilizing recovery principles.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive care and support.
  • Develop and conduct inpatient groups to promote patient engagement and empowerment.
  • Provide brief solution-focused therapy, support, advocacy, and education services to patients and their support person(s).
  • Conduct psychosocial and psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments, to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Collaborate with community resources and navigate the broader mental health system to ensure seamless care transitions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to promote patient-centered care.
Requirements:
  • Current Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility.
  • Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized Community College.
  • Recent psychiatric nursing experience within the past three years.
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, Substitute Decision Makers Act, HCCA, and the DSM-IV-R.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and respond effectively to emergent situations.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and patient assessment skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary team setting.
  • Ability to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
