Job Summary

The Automation Controls Specialist will be responsible for designing, developing, and troubleshooting control programs for custom automation equipment. This includes programming of control systems using PLC's, PC's, servo drives, robots, and other specialized controllers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering and experience with low-voltage electrical connections, instrumentation configuration, and PC-based test and automation equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and program software specific to customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot controls and electrical equipment at customer facilities and make necessary adjustments to bring equipment up to running status.
  • Perform customer training and communicate with customers via email, phone, and instant messaging/video calls.
  • Perform onsite preventative maintenance reviews and provide recommendations and quotes.
  • Report and correct abnormal equipment conditions and inaccurate actions by customer staff.
  • Ensure alignment of customer objectives with on-site work plan.
  • Support developing operating and troubleshooting knowledge of the operations team.
  • Review/suggest additional tools or equipment necessary to better operate or maintain customer equipment.
  • Make recommendations to repair/replace only items that require repair/replacement.
  • Travel to domestic and international customer locations for short and long-term support, with on-call availability.
  • Lead on-site teams and liaison with customers and ATS Project Managers.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors and assist in resolving technical issues as required.
  • Complete detailed Service Reports for services provided on a daily/weekly basis.
Requirements
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in programming/electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a hands-on automation/controls environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience programming PLC's and HMI's using Allen Bradley or Siemens software.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting with low-voltage electrical connections using multimeters or oscilloscopes.
  • Experience with configuration of instrumentation using vendor software and interfaces.
  • Experience with 3rd party PC-based test and automation equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced multitasking environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Takes initiative, innovative, and has a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience working independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate in a written and verbal manner effectively.
  • Ability to read drawings, reference manuals, and systems instruction guides with little to no assistance.
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge to readily troubleshoot systems.
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
