About the Role

The Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a vital role in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, performing analytical tests and procedures using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques.

This position requires the ability to work independently, with little or no supervision, in emergency and weekend/night situations. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols
  • Operate instruments that are often computer integrated and networked
  • Use computerized information systems to compare test results to pre-established criteria
  • Exercise independent judgment in making decisions regarding the reportability of results
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Requirements
  • Graduate from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Licensed with NSCMLT or eligible
  • Registration with CSMLS
  • Ability to work shiftwork (weekends and holidays as required)
  • Willingness to travel when required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
