Animal Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the BC SPCA. As a key member of our animal care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, welfare, and well-being of the animals in our care.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain the physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner, ensuring the health and safety of both animals and staff.
- Ensure kennels, runs, and cat cages are kept in a manner that promotes the animal's health and welfare, adhering to ShelterSense protocols.
- Monitor the health and welfare of animals through accurate record-keeping, daily logs, and welfare sheets.
- Provide daily care, including feeding, watering, exercise, and enrichment, to maintain animals' physical and emotional well-being.
- Perform general bathing and grooming of animals, treating them with compassion and respect.
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive and supportive team environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
- Excellent customer service skills, with a strong desire to provide patient, professional, and positive interactions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
- Sound knowledge of animal behavior, breeds, characteristics, and common diseases.
- Previous kennel or animal care experience is an asset.
- Demonstrable interest in animal welfare and a commitment to upholding the BC SPCA's values.
- Ability to maintain a high level of physical fitness and endurance to fulfill the demands of the role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to learn new software as needed.
