About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team at Hecla Mining Company. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our Keno Hill mine operates in an environmentally responsible and regulatory compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate activities to maintain environmentally responsible and regulatory compliant operations at our Keno Hill mine.
  • Monitor and support permitting processes to ensure permits are in good standing and compliant.
  • Assist in managing the development and implementation of key studies and action plans to support environmental compliance and permitting initiatives.
  • Complete and direct various project management and support tasks related to regulatory and permitting requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining and tracking compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and site permits.
  • Support review, auditing, tracking, and reporting on site compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of all licenses, permits, approvals, and applicable regulatory environmental requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance to agencies for permit renewals.
  • Maintain record of current environmental commitments and regulatory inspections.
  • Review of technical reports and coordination of technical consultants as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental policy, geology, biology, engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mining, resource development, industrial operations, environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and effective industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills; must be able to present relevant, credible information to site personnel as well as regulators and stakeholders in both written and verbal form.
  • Strong organizational, time management skills, attention to detail, and conscientious dedication to maintaining records.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a team member with external communities of interest including regulatory agencies and Indigenous groups.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and desire to promote a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible culture.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Work Environment and Job Schedule

This position will be working out of our Whitehorse office on a Monday to Friday schedule with frequent travel to site. While at site employees will be frequently exposed to; outside weather conditions, snow conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is occasionally loud. Camp housing and meals will be provided when at site.
