The Role
The Second Cook is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for preparing high-quality food to order for guests in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food to order, adhering to established guidelines and quality standards.
- Ensure that all food is prepared and presented to the highest standards, meeting the expectations of our guests.
- Work effectively with the kitchen team to ensure seamless service and efficient food production.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
- Assist with daily food requisitions and inventory management.
- Participate in menu planning and cost control initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Culinary Journeyman Red Seal Certificate or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years cooking experience or 1 year as a Second Cook in a similar environment and/or upscale hotel.
- Previous experience in all areas of the kitchen, including suite food production, buffets, banquets, catering, and menu planning.
- Strong knowledge of food terminology, handling, and preparation.
- Ability to take and follow direction, and adapt to changing scheduling.
Working Conditions
This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of attention to detail and excellent communication skills. The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, and stooping, with regular use of hands and fingers.
