Job Summary

Expeditors is seeking a highly skilled Employee Relations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, managing employee life cycles, and administering leave of absences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level customer service to business leaders and employees, ensuring positive working relations.
  • Manage and administer employee life cycle changes, including hires, transfers, and terminations.
  • Manage leave of absences, including ESA job-protected leaves, and ensure compliance with company policies and federal and provincial legislation.
  • Provide advice and education to managers and employees on compliance with company policies and employment legislation.
  • Serve as a resource to managers, providing consultation on performance management, employee relations, investigations, and progressive discipline matters.
  • Assess and implement resolutions to complex employee relations matters, including decisions involving varying levels of risk.
  • Conduct workplace investigations on workplace violations and harassment-related complaints, ensuring objective and thorough results.
  • Manage benefits programs, ensuring accuracy in billing and follow-up with third parties when issues arise.
  • Maintain accurate records and compile statistical reports on personnel data, including hires, transfers, absenteeism rates, and performance appraisals.
  • Support management and senior leadership in the development, implementation, and revision of all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain strong working partnerships with the Payroll, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure effective and efficient workflow between departments.
  • Assist management in the development of departmental goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Demonstrate utmost professionalism and ethical standards at all times, handling confidential information with discretion.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • CHRP designation preferred.
  • Fluency in French is a strong asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of HR experience.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deliverables.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to conduct sound risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others.
  • Ability to foster a positive and respectful team environment.
