Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Labour Relations Manager to join our Human Resources team at The Universal Group. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and handling workplace investigations, employee grievances, participating in collective bargaining processes, and promoting best practices in labour and employee relations to ensure compliance, consistency, and fairness across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead investigations of routine and complex workplace incidents, including allegations of bullying and harassment, personality conflicts, behavioural and performance issues.
  • Respond to employee and union grievances, working collaboratively with managers, union representatives, and employees to resolve issues promptly and effectively.
  • Participate in collective bargaining preparation, negotiations, preparing research, data, and documentation to support the Director of Labour Relations and the bargaining team.
  • Develop and deliver training to managers on labour relations principles, performance management practices, effective communication with unionized employees, and the interpretation of labour laws and collective agreements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Labour Law, or a related field.
  • Masters degree in Industrial Relations, Strategic Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or similar would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in labour relations and employee relations in complex unionized environments.
  • Excellent conflict and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying collective agreements, labour laws, and workplace policies.
