Job Title: Pilote de Test

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pilote de Test to join our team at MHM Publishing Inc. As a Pilote de Test, you will be responsible for performing pilot-in-command flight and related duties on VFR-equipped single-engine helicopters as required by our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as pilot in command as directed by the operations manager or delegate.
  • Be responsible for the operation and safety of the helicopter, and for the safety and security of all persons involved during flight operations.
  • Have final authority to conduct or cancel scheduled flight operations.
  • Ensure that the helicopter is operated in accordance with aircraft flight manual and all applicable orders, standard operation procedures, Transport Canada regulations, Hydro One policies, and directives.
  • Provide liaison with internal Hydro One lines of business in determining the flight operation of the helicopter to deliver the necessary expertise for helicopter related work.
  • Take required training courses as directed by the chief pilot, and Transport Canada policies.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Provide safety briefings including instruction on aircraft safety/survival equipment location and techniques of use in the event of emergency.
  • Conduct pre-flight inspection of the aircraft confirming serviceability and preforming pre-flight duties such as documentation, weight and balance calculations and flight planning as required.
  • Oversee safe configuration of aircraft.
  • Maintain high standard of aircraft serviceability and cleanliness.
  • Record defects and assist air engineers in defect rectification.
  • Conduct administrative tasks at obligatory intervals.
  • Participate in company safety management system.
  • Support Hydro One's mission to provide reliable electricity.

Qualifications and Licensing:

  • Valid Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
  • Valid Commercial (or higher) Canadian pilot license with minimum of 3,000 flight hours.
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours combined experience on AS355 and AS350BA, B2, B3, B3e aircraft.
  • Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Licence.
  • Valid passport or ability to acquire.

Knowledge/Skill:

  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian Air Regulations.
  • Extensive precision vertical reference external load experience required.
  • Experience conducting power line patrols, and knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission power maintenance and construction.
  • Solid aviation knowledge base including weather reporting, GPS and electronic mapping navigational techniques, weather minima, and aircraft radio communication.
  • Comfortable working with modern electronic systems and document control.
  • Must possess and demonstrate well-developed communication, public relations, and documentation writing skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decisiveness in stressful and emergency situations.

  • Criminal record check.
  • Driver's abstract.

Transportation/Travel Information:

  • Willing to travel.
  • Valid driver's license.

Work Location Information:

  • Based at the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport (CYLS) with assignments throughout Ontario.

Salary:

Based on Level 1 Pilot salary of $155,000 per year paid bi-weekly plus benefits. Crew house provided and expenses covered when travelling.
