About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Youth Support Specialist to join our team at Coast Mental Health.

Job Summary:

This is a Temporary, Part-time position working Sundays from 8am to 4pm in Surrey, BC. As a Youth Support Specialist, you will be working with youth and young adults ages 17 to 24 identifying as female, supporting them in various aspects of their lives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Connect with youth who are not accessing services and provide support in obtaining community services for mental health, physical health, addictions, criminal justice issues, employment, finances, housing, education, and other needs defined by the youth.
  • Work later hours and weekends to connect with youth and support them in their daily lives.
  • Navigate, liaise, and communicate effectively with services for youth, advocating on their behalf to ensure they receive necessary supports.
  • Support youth in attending appointments with healthcare professionals and facilitate access to resources within the community.
  • Develop and implement programs that promote restorative justice approaches for youth.
  • Engage clients in daily life skills activities, including leisure, cooking, housekeeping, and maintenance tasks.
  • Provide community-based psycho-social rehabilitation services, linking clients with community programs and services.
  • Teach and model life skills, strategies for self-care, independent living, and interacting with outside social agencies.
  • Apply effective communication strategies, such as role-modeling, to establish collaborative relationships with clients.
  • Provide support and information to help clients build self-esteem and develop decision-making skills.
  • Assist clients in accessing formal and informal community supports, including leisure, vocational, educational services.
  • Observe and record clients' physical and mental health status, taking necessary actions.
  • Advocate for and with clients to promote their rights and dignity.
  • Collaborate with clients, peers, supervisors, other agencies, and relatives in a cooperative and professional manner.
  • Develop individualized life skills programs for clients, involving family, friends, and community resources where appropriate.
  • Ensure administrative tasks are completed within allocated timeframes and adhere to program policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Child & Youth Care, Community Social Service Work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Recent, related experience of two years.
  • Certificates in First Aid + CPR, WHMIS, FoodSafe, Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance, Non-violent Crisis Intervention training, TB Clearance, Immunization Records, and BCDL - Class 5, with a copy of Drivers Abstract.

Estimated Salary: $32.29/hour, approximately $67,654/year based on a 40-hour workweek.
