Qualifications and Requirements

**Education and Experience**

To be considered for this role, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Child/Youth Care or a related discipline, as well as three years of recent experience in the assessment and treatment of children and youth with psychiatric/mental health concerns. A working knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act, and the Child, Family and Community Service Act is also required. Additionally, a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is necessary.

Key Skills and Abilities
  • **Mental Health Assessment**: You must be able to conduct age-appropriate mental health assessments, including risk to self/others and mental status.
  • **Crisis Intervention**: You should be able to apply crisis intervention and stabilization principles effectively.
  • **High-Acuity Situations**: You must be able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure in high-acuity situations.
  • **Therapeutic Relationships**: You should be able to establish therapeutic relationships with patients/clients and their families/significant others.
  • **Communication Skills**: You must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients/clients, and families/significant others.
  • **Teamwork**: You should be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • **Patient/Family Centred Care**: You must be able to practice within the concepts of Patient/Family Centred Care, Trauma Informed Care, Collaborative Problem Solving, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • **De-escalation Skills**: You should be able to contribute to a safe work environment by utilizing the least restrictive de-escalation skills.
  • **Organizational Skills**: You must be able to organize your work and the demands of the shift effectively.
  • **Computer Skills**: You should be able to use a computer and software, such as various Microsoft Office applications, electronic health records, etc.
  • **Physical Ability**: You must be physically able to perform the duties of the position.
