In this role, you will provide essential support and guidance to children and youth facing mental health challenges. Your expertise in assessment, treatment, and therapeutic interventions will be instrumental in helping these individuals navigate their difficulties and achieve positive outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of children and youth, evaluating their mental health status and identifying potential risks to themselves or others.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each client, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Trauma Informed Care, Solution Focused Problem Solving, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and educators, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for clients.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to children and youth, fostering a safe and supportive environment where they can explore their emotions, develop coping skills, and build resilience.
  • Educate families and caregivers about mental health conditions, treatment options, and available resources to support their child's well-being.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Social Science relevant to Child/Youth Mental Health.
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent experience in the assessment and treatment of Children/Youth with psychiatric/mental health concerns.
  • Working knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act, and the Child, Family and Community Service Act.
  • Basic First Aid certification with CPR.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with children and youth.
  • Proficiency in utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Trauma Informed Care, Solution Focused Problem Solving, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Commitment to providing patient/family centered care.
