Job Summary:

The Driller will be responsible for operating heavy drilling equipment to bore blast holes in open-pit mines, construction sites, and quarry operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drilling and blasting, with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling machines to bore blast holes to specified depths and diameters.
  • Measure and stake out drill patterns, load blast holes with explosives, and detonate explosives to dislodge coal, ore, or rock.
  • Read instructions and diagrams, lay out drill patterns, and determine the type and quantity of explosives required.
  • Assemble primer charges using detonators, fuses, and other materials, and load explosives into blast holes.
  • Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses to blasting machines and detonate charges.
  • Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations and ensure that safety procedures are observed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Provincial blasting license (Class 1 or Class 2) or trade certification is required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in drilling and blasting.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
