About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Developer to join our team at Vancouver Coastal Health. As a key member of our Data Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining robust data solutions across both on-premises SQL and Azure cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Implement Data Solutions: Develop and implement scalable, reliable, and efficient data solutions that meet specific business needs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with data engineering, analytics, and technical teams to support major data migration initiatives to cloud solutions (MS Azure and Databricks).
  • Lead Data Engineering Initiatives: Drive initiatives that enhance the department's data capabilities and overall efficiency, ensuring the successful delivery and promotion of scalable data solutions within approved enterprise environments.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to junior data engineers, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and innovation within the team and the organization.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements, provide clean and reliable data, and support advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.
  • Implement Data Solutions/Pipelines: Implement data solutions/pipelines while applying data and cost optimization strategies, performing system and requirements analysis.
  • Document and Communicate: Prepare detailed documentation and specifications for the implementation of data solutions/pipelines, effectively communicating complex ideas and processes to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a data-intensive related field, with five years of experience as a Data Developer, two of which will have been in a senior role or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to develop, deploy, and maintain complex multi-tiered data infrastructure, database, and data solutions with on-prem and cloud tools, strong proficiency in SQL languages, and demonstrated hands-on experience optimizing data solutions and pipelines.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management, and planning skills, with the ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and communicate complex ideas and processes in simple terminology.
