About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Property Underwriter to join our Central and Eastern Canada Property team. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to our sustainable growth and profitability by providing property underwriting expertise to our clients and ensuring compliance with our underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key brokers and clients, focusing on large corporate and middle market risk segments.
  • Provide property underwriting expertise to our clients, ensuring adherence to internal underwriting guidelines and effective execution of underwriting portfolio strategy.
  • Represent Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in meetings with clients, brokers, and other SR Group entities.
  • Target and select risks effectively, ensuring adherence to internal underwriting guidelines and effective execution of underwriting portfolio strategy.
  • Learn and effectively employ Swiss Re underwriting tools to develop pricing, terms, and conditions at an account level in line with underwriting guidelines and corporate strategy.
  • Assist in the timely issuance of binders and policies as well as the collection of premiums as necessary.
  • Enter and maintain risk information into the various information systems and administer accounts.
  • Review, assess and negotiate contract language effectively in order to protect both Swiss Re and our stakeholders' respective interests.
  • Prepare proposals, binders, and policies in accordance with and adhering to internal guidelines.
  • Continuously update and develop your specific industry knowledge, skills, and expertise and keep abreast of emerging issues.

About You

Educational Background:

  • University degree or equivalent with a business or finance component preferred.
  • Professional designations, such as Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), CRM, would be an asset.

Professional Experience:

  • Experience in Property underwriting and knowledge of the market preferably including international business capabilities.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Service-oriented and entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on execution.
  • Positive, solution-focused and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Client-centric, proactive style anticipating customer future needs.
  • A strong teammate, including ability to work well with teams and groups in multiple offices across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and credibility.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to cross-sell product offerings.
  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning capabilities.

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in English, French would be an asset.
