The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Property Underwriter to join our team at Zurich Canada. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for analyzing and underwriting new and renewal business, utilizing our proprietary underwriting framework to ensure a high level of service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated underwriting authority.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Qualify accounts to meet within our organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
  • Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density.
  • Business travel as required.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the insurance or market-facing area.
  • OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • 1-2 years of property underwriting experience.
  • An analytical mindset and inquisitive nature.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A self-starter and proactive attitude.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge in reviewing engineering reports.
  • Experience working with rating engines and Nat Cat modeling.
  • Insurance industry-specific education (F/CIP, CRM, RPLU, etc.) is an asset.
