About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Property Underwriter to join our team in the Ontario Region General Property team in Toronto. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for establishing and fostering relationships with brokers and customers while underwriting a profitable renewal portfolio of complex, large property customers with revenues above $300M.

You will be supported by a dedicated local team of Underwriting Assistants, Risk Engineers, International Service Specialists, and an industry-leading claims team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing and highly successful organization.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Relationship Building: Establish trusting relationships with brokers and customers in varying industry segments.
  2. Business Development: Build a pipeline of new business targets with assigned brokers.
  3. Risk Assessment: Strong decision-making skills and the ability to bring creativity to underwriting risks.
  4. Technical Expertise: Highly analytical and willing to further develop in technical risk areas.
  5. Risk Engineering: Awareness of risk engineering reports and risk recommendations issued.
  6. Underwriting Tools: Ability to utilize modern online underwriting tools, rating, and modeling.
  7. Contract Management: Attention to detail with contract certainty on quotes and wordings issued.
  8. CAT Management: Understanding of CAT management.
  9. Documentation: Thorough documentation and completion of files, narratives, and systems.
  10. Market Knowledge: Understanding of regional/local insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  11. Collaboration: Highly collaborative and proactively drive involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process, including risk engineering, claims, actuarial, finance, distribution, and other lines of business.
Requirements
  1. Experience: Minimum 2+ years of demonstrated underwriting or broking experience within Property.
  2. Certification: Completed or pursuing CIP designation.
  3. Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent industry training and experience.
  4. Skills: Strong business acumen and communication skills.
  5. Software: Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
