The Opportunity - Athletics Coordinator & Associate Rodeo Coach, Contract
Broncos Athletics at Olds College is seeking a part-time Coordinator and Associate Rodeo Coach for the events of barrel racing, pole bending, and goat tying. Our intercollegiate teams have a rich tradition of student-athlete success, ranking Olds College among the finest programs in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) and the Canadian Colleges Rodeo Association (CCRA).
Key Responsibilities- Ensure animal and human welfare is a top priority at all times.
- Implement and maintain the Animal Use Protocol, ensuring daily adherence.
- Develop and maintain safety measures to reduce the risk of injury for athletes, coaches, and spectators.
- Analyze performance and provide constructive feedback to student-athletes during practice and events.
- Develop and maintain an active recruiting plan focused on ladies' events, communicating with the Head Rodeo Coach to ensure all athletes are signed according to Broncos Athletics procedures.
- Monitor and ensure the academic standards of student-athletes are met.
- In coordination with the Head Rodeo Coach, develop a yearly training plan for all athletes, including competition schedules, strength and conditioning, team building, and other initiatives.
- Assist in coordinating fundraising opportunities, alumni engagement, and special events such as rodeo clinics, jackpots, and alumni rodeos.
- Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, Smart Farm staff, administration, and faculty.
- Support and act in accordance with the Broncos Athletics strategic plan and initiatives related to fundraising, sponsorship, general promotions, budget management, and community and alumni relations.
- Supervise student-athletes representing Olds College at CCRA events and exhibition competitions, ensuring adherence to the Athlete Code of Conduct.
- Submit the varsity roster to the CCRA in a timely manner, in consultation with the Head Rodeo Coach.
- Participate in CCRA meetings, ensuring best practices are encouraged and followed, and reporting policy changes and recommendations back to Broncos Athletics.
- Assist in seeking sponsorship specific to the Olds College rodeo program for events, chutes, arena improvements, and scholarship development.
- Participate in athlete check-ins with the Head Rodeo Coach, ensuring athletes are in a positive space academically, mentally, and physically.
- Contribute to maintaining healthy budgets across all programs in support of Broncos Athletics and Olds College goals.
- Support and act in accordance with the Broncos Athletics strategic plan and initiatives related to fundraising, sponsorship, general promotions, community and alumni relations, and other administrative responsibilities.
- A post-secondary diploma or degree is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in coaching rodeo athletes is required.
- A National Coaching Certification Program Level II is considered an asset.
- Competing at a National/Professional level is considered in lieu of collegiate coaching experience.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- A professional code of conduct, including being approachable, maintaining a positive attitude, and being trustworthy, is expected.
- A strong dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity is required, including actively seeking out and valuing diverse perspectives, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment, and continuously striving to create a culture of respect and understanding.
- A good working knowledge of Google and associated apps, as well as Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, is required.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification is required.
Conditions of Employment
- Work outside of regular College operating hours will be required.
- A current Criminal Reference check with a vulnerable sector check, free of any offenses, is required.
