Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) plays a vital role in strengthening Alberta's economy by enabling growth, diversification, sustainability, and innovation in the agriculture sector. The ministry also works to ensure that Alberta's rural communities are able to participate in and benefit from the province's economic growth and prosperity, including agriculture and agri-food business, trade, and economics, and farm business management programs.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Primary Agriculture, the Executive Director will be responsible for providing strategic leadership on animal health, welfare, associated programs, and services. The Executive Director will also collaborate with the divisional leadership team, including Federal and Provincial partners and industry, to deliver strong programs that will provide a full view of the animal health, welfare, assurance, and policy within Alberta.
You will bring extensive senior management experience with a diverse background in agriculture, animal health, and welfare, and demonstrated expertise in policy, program, and legislation development. Your strong political acumen and excellent communication skills will enable you to facilitate collaborative partnerships to resolve sensitive and complex policy and scientific issues. A bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, or animal health, or similar education, is preferred.
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for:
- Providing strategic leadership on animal health, welfare, associated programs, and services
- Collaborating with the divisional leadership team, including Federal and Provincial partners and industry
- Developing and implementing policies and programs related to animal health and welfare
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including industry partners, Federal and Provincial governments, and other key stakeholders
- Providing guidance and support to staff on animal health and welfare issues
Salary: $132,652 (bi-weekly)
