Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) plays a vital role in strengthening Alberta's economy by enabling growth, diversification, sustainability, and innovation in the agriculture sector. The ministry works to ensure that Alberta's rural communities are able to participate in and benefit from the province's economic growth and prosperity, including agriculture and agri-food business, trade, and economics, and farm business management programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Primary Agriculture, the Executive Director will be responsible for providing strategic leadership on animal health, welfare, associated programs, and services. The Executive Director will collaborate with the divisional leadership team, including Federal and Provincial partners and industry, to deliver strong programs that provide a full view of animal health, welfare, assurance, and policy within Alberta.

Qualifications

You bring extensive senior management experience with a diverse background in agriculture, animal health, and welfare, and demonstrated expertise in policy, program, and legislation development. Your strong political acumen and excellent communication skills enable you to facilitate collaborative partnerships to resolve sensitive and complex policy and scientific issues. A bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, or animal health, or similar education, is preferred.

As a senior leader, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight to the animal health and welfare team. You will work closely with stakeholders to develop and implement policies and programs that promote animal health and welfare, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
