Occupational Health Specialist

The Occupational Health Specialist will play a key role in improving workplace occupational health and wellness at Halifax Water. This position will support the Occupational Health and Hygiene Practitioner in disability management, and other health-related programs and benefits provided by the company.
Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in the management of leaves, return-to-work, wellness, and other health-related programs.
- Collaborate with employees to understand their physical health goals and assess their abilities in relation to job demands.
- Work with WCB to develop and implement rehabilitation programs for injured workers, assess physical capabilities, and design exercise programs to aid in recovery and return-to-work processes.
- Create and monitor individualized physical and functional rehabilitation plans for individuals on long-term disability.
- Conduct workstation set-up reviews, provide functional testing and develop wellness programs aimed at preventing injuries and managing chronic conditions.
- Implement outcome-oriented services and therapy plans as directed by the Occupational Health and Hygiene Practitioner.
- Establish and prioritize expected outcomes, discuss service implementation options, and determine sources and duration of service to meet identified short and long-term client goals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team case management coordination as required.
- Provide education on physical health-related topics and develop return-to-work schedules for employees who have experienced illness or injury.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications for this position include a university degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or related degree. Additionally, experience practicing in Kinesiology and/or industrial workplace setting or any related experience an asset. Familiarity with working with organizations such as WCB (Workers' Compensation Board), LTD (Long-Term Disability), and disability management is also advantageous. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- Membership with the Kinesiology Association of Nova Scotia (KANS) or the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA) would be an asset.
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training: First AidGlobally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements
- Working knowledge and understanding of disability legislation and regulations, applicable health and safety regulations, codes, standards, and best practices.
- Effective interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills, with the ability to listen and gather information, present to groups, and create clear and concise written reports.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to accomplish organizational goals.
- Thorough knowledge of organization and reporting relationships.
