Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled Occupational Health Practitioner to join its team.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a physically and psychologically safe and healthy workplace. This includes developing and implementing the work connectedness strategy, providing advice and expertise to management teams, and supporting employees returning to work after extended absences.

About the Role

This full-time, permanent position offers a competitive salary range of $88,690 - $114,770 per year, based on Non-Union, Level NU8.

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in occupational health nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in an occupational health background.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the work connectedness strategy at HRM.
  • Promote and champion work connectedness across HRM business units.
  • Align work connectedness practices with HRM's focus on building and maintaining a physically and psychologically safe and healthy workplace.
  • Provide advice and expertise to management teams, union representatives, HR personnel, and health specialists in complex cases.
  • Support employees returning to work after extended absences.
  • Collaborate with HRM Health and Safety teams to identify injury prevention opportunities.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in occupational health nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in an occupational health background.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing Stay at Work/Return to Work philosophies.
  • Knowledge of labour relations principles and collective agreement administration.
  • Effective interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills.
